Lapsang Souchong is the world’s earliest black teas. It was invented in 1600s and soon was introduced to the European countries. It had been the most popular tea in the EU counties for long time. Lapsang Souchong Black Tea is produced in the Tongmu Village of Wuyi in North Fujian. Before the invention of it, it had been all the while producing green tea there in the Tongmu village. But one day an army passed by there and it changed the history. The army requisitioned a tea factory for night camping. And the soldiers were so tired that they directly slept on the tea leaves which were laid on the bamboo flat for short withering just before frying. The next morning, the army marched away, and left the tea leaves which were violently trampled, squeezed and rolled. We know fermentation happened in this way. (Fresh tea leaf without killing, once rolled and squeezed out the tea juice will get fermented under oxygen).

The owner of the tea factory didn’t want to waste the tea leaves, despite they were seriously damaged. He still asked his men to fry the tea as usual. After the tea was made, it gave a strange kind of flavour which they have never experienced. The owner was worried that he the tea could not be sold, so he burned pine wood to roast the tea once again, trying to use the pine smoke to cover the strange flavor. The tea was finally sent to the market for sale. Unexpectedly, it became the hot selling tea. And some foreign businessmen even placed a big order for next years. So the black tea was born, and it was a black tea with pine smoke flavor.

The Tongmu village is located in the rocky Wuyi Mountain area. It has a very good forestry covering here. And the seal level is 600m which is high in the Fujian Province.

How does it taste: The Lapsang Souchong Black Tea has rick level taste with character of Yanyun-taste brought by minerals. And it has the classic pine smoke flavor.
