Tong Mu Guan is the birthplace of the world black tea Lapsang Souchong. it is located inside the Wuyi Natural Reserve Park. There are 455 ha. of tea garden in Tong Mu Village, belonging to 343 farmers. The tea cultivars planted in Tong Mu Village are Xiao Cai Cha 小菜茶 (Qi Zhong 奇种) 243 ha (53.67% of total tea planting area), Shui Xian 水仙 210 ha (46.23% of total tea planting area). and Rou Gui 2 ha (1% of total tea planting area).
Tong Mu Guan
Xiao Cai Cha is also named Qi Zhong. It is the traditional mixed tea cultivar which had been planted in Tong Mu Guan all the while. The Xiao Cai Cha is bred by seed. And it get natural hybrid during the breeding, so the tea trees behave lots of different biological characters so far. According to the statistics, there are nine types of Xiao Cai Cha, classified by the leaf shape and size, and height of tea tree. It is the best tea cultivar to process Jin Jun Mei Black Tea. The tea made by it has no bitterness and astringency. The fragrance is high, and the taste is mellow brisk and aftertaste is deep.
Xiao Cai Cha
Shui Xian is the tea cultivar introduced from the nearby Jianyang County. It is a cultivar found around 150 years ago in Zhu Xian Dong of JianYang County. In local dialect of Jianyang, Zhu Xian is pronounced as Shui Xian. So this cultivar was named as Shui Xian. The tea made by shui xian cultivar has high flowery fragrance and it lasts infusions. It is a cultivar very suitable to process oolong tea. It is widely planted in Wuyi and North Fujian.
