Lei Kou Chai 雷扣柴 is a rare type of Feng Huang Dan Cong oolong tea. It belongs to Zhi Lan Xiang 芝兰香 family, by the character of flavor. It is also named as Pi Ding Xiang 霹顶香 by the chaozhou local people, because of the sharp and strong fragrance of this tea.
The Lei Kou Chai 雷扣柴 cultivar was bred and kept by the ancestors of the Wudong farmer Wen Xi Peng. But around eighty years ago, the mother tree of Lei Kou Chai was hit by a thunder, and the mother tree was seriously damaged, which died later. Foutunately Wen Xi Peng’s grandfather took one branch from the mother tree before it completely died and graft bred the tea tree. So now what we saw the mother tree of Lei Kou Chai Feng Huang Dan Cong is the one graft bred around eighty years ago. It grows in the Da Shan Jiao, Li Zai Ping of Wudong Mountain 乌岽李仔坪大杉脚). The altitude is 1050m.
One story goes in Chazhou that, in Chinese there is one idiom 木秀于林 风必摧之, which means if one plant grows outstanding in the forestry, it must be damged by the wind or nature. So they use this idiom to explain the destiny of Lei Kou Chai 雷扣柴. It is too good a tea tree there, even the nature feel jealous and it used thunder to destry it. The quality of Lei Kou Chai 雷扣柴 Feng Huang Dan Cong is really unprecedently fantastic!
The processing of the Lei Kou Chai 雷扣柴 follows the classic Feng Huang Dan Cong prcessing. The Zuo Qing (fermentation) is just good and the baking is conducted by charcoal heat. (Especially our baking technology by charcoal is the most advanced level in Chaozhou).
The quality characteristics of Lei Kou Chai: The tea body is tight and straight, the color is brown oily, It has strong ligering flower fragrance like orchid, the soup is orange and bright, the taste is full-bodied brisk and mellow clear, and produce long pleasant aftertaste. It lasts infusion of more than 16 times by gaiwan.
