Bing Dao is a village in the Xibanshan of Mengku of Lincang Region, Yunnan Provicne. The old tree Pu-erh tea Bing Dao is the most famous one which is from Lincang Region, among the many famous pu-erh teas in Yunnan. The Bing Dao village is not very big. The area is 2.51 square kilometer. And the population is 1064.
It is recorded that in 1485 the headman of Mianning (Nowadays Lincang) asked his men to purchase 200 tea seeds from Yiwu 易武, and planted in the Bing Dao village. Most of the tea seeds grew up. And now there are around 20 old trees planted at that time still alive there. So the oldest tea tree in Bing Dao is around 500 years old. In the long time of growing, the tea has formed a cutivar, Mengku Big Leaf Tea, though it was originated from South Yunnan, Xishuangbanna.
The altiutde of Bing Dao village is around 1300m, which is not a high altitude in the Yunnan tea mountains. But here the climate is special in that the sunlight is very strong and the air is dry, especially in the Spring tea season.
